I am in the process of installing and activating mojo pack on a 60 GB WD passport. I understand that I can transfer some of the software from the host computer to the mojo pack.

The host computer is protected with Norton Internet Security which provides virus, firewall, privacy control, intrusion prevention, ...

Will I be able to use the Norton antivirus that is already installed on the host computer in the mojo pack enviroment or do I need to buy a new license so that my mojopack is protected the same way?

I just checked the list of security programs that work on Mojo and Norton is not listed. Does that mean that it is known not to work or that it hasn't been tried yet?

C'mon, somebody must have tried Norton. If you are asking yourselves why don't I just try it I will tell you that purchase decisions will be base on the answer.

So please, somebody tell me anything. If it has never been tried before, I guess I will become the guinea pig, but I don't want to make a mistake that somebody has already made, or I will sleep better knowing that I can accomplish my strategy.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Installing a program on your MojoPac PC is like installing it on any other PC, with all the licensing implications. I think you should be careful with Norton Internet Security - my notion is that it does a lot of stuff that will not sit very well with Mojo. Remember that in principle the host PC and all its local drives are separate from the MojoPac PC. Besides, on a personal note, NIS is a resource hog and I, for one, have thrown it away :)

Good luck!

Hi jpijper,

I guess I didn't explained myself clearly. I have been a beta tester for Microsoft's Live One Care which comes with antivirus and firewall and everything else. Because of the Beta testing, they gave us a half price discount for a year. I was waiting for somebody to answer my question because there was a deadline, so I bought it already. I like to buy things half price, like when I bought MojoPack before Dec 31!

Currently I have more than 200 days of NIS 06 on my desktop. Western Digital sent me a 40 gig passport that didn't work, so they are sending me a 60 gig at no extra cost, so space is not an issue. The folks at Norton are even giving me a free ungrade to Norton internet 2007. They sent me an activation code and all I got to do is install the NIS 2007 trial and put the code they sent me. Another offer hard to resist.

The reason I was asking is that this scheme depended on NIS 07 working on Mojo, but now it is too late cause I already bought the LOC. Hmm... maybe LOC will work better on Mojo than NIS 07.I know that nobody has tried LOC yet since it just came out of beta, but if it work well on XP then LOC may have a better chance on Mojo than NIS.

My head is hurting from so much thinking. I'm not sure what to do. LOC on Mojo and NIS on XP pro or NIS 07 on Mojo and LOC on XP? I am going to leave it alone for a few days and see if somebody can help me decide. A few words from the developers would be great.

Oh well, It's 1:30 am in AZ, so I'm going to sleep now. Thanks in advance to any kind soul.

Ciao

Ciao Paolo!

I have tried NOD32 from ESET (the best antivirus in the world) and it works great on Mojo. One thing you can do to really verify that your antivirus is working (mojo and host pc) is by using the EICAR test file. This file is not a virus, but every virus vendor has agreed to detect it as though it is one. This is to make sure that your antivirus software is working as intended. You can get that from here: http://eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm

Here is the EICAR test string... No, it is not a virus, but if you have a popup saying 'virus found' then good, your antivirus software is working.

I have tried to install both AVG Free and NOD32 but they always return an error when trying to create a service at the end of the install.

Spiderx could you let me know how you got NOD32 to work and which version you have?

Also if anyone has got AVG free (7.5) to work please let me know how.

Thanks

Rochey

I'm also interested if anyone gets AVG Free 7.5 working. This is my preferred AV client and being a free one it should be rather high on the list of priorities.

Besides; the fact that more than just this application are showing problems with creating services shows a flaw somewhere that will likely need to be corrected to improve compatibility with a few software packages.

I've tried Installing the latest version (4.7.896) of Avast Home (free) as well - No joy there. Error 1068 trying to start the service.

Do we really need AntiVirus on MojoPac - one would think the Host AV should be at least be scanning files as Mojo tries to read them - Memory resident stuff might be another issue, though.

Why don't you try downloading the EICAR test file to your mojopac and see if your host system's AV detects it? If it does then you are safe using that host system. However you are banking on whatever host you are using to keep you safe so beware where you plug in.

hi guys,

i just installed avast 4.7.1001 and it seems fine. nothing to worry about for the moment - but that's just day one...

Update: seems it doesn't work that well after one day, sorry :-(

however it would be great if the mojo-team could test some more security, anti-virus, etc. apps

btw. off the topic - i am running zonealarm on my host....and thats not really fun when you start working with mojo...so i am really happy about the "win+s" combination so i can switch between mojo and host quickly.

cheers

Hi,

I can say that NIS 2008 doesn't work on my Mojopac. I bought it for my laptop and tried to install on Mojo as well, but continually get an error saying that I haven't chosen a valid install folder - even when you change the install from say C: drive (which is the Mojopac anyway from within Mojo) to the E: drive (where the Mojopac is as seen by the host) or try different variations of folders (e.g. it can't be installed on a folder root of more than 80 characters or something) I can't get it working.

NIS seems to know that it isn't being installed on a disc built into the host system and spits the dummy.

There are certain known issues with the Norton security software and is currently being tracked in our tracking system. Our developers are currently working on this issue and the fix will be provided in the future releases.

Please understand that we are working hard to fix all such issues to make the product work better for you.

Thanks,

the good news is I just tried the EICAR antivirus test program with Mojopac plugged into my work computer and the host PC sophos antivirus picked up on it and prevented it from executing, so it seems like the host AV programme may do the trick, and with NIS 2008 on my home laptop that should protect me at home too.

Cheers, Chris
