I am trying to use QuickBooks Pro 2008 on an external Western Digital drive. The software loads fine but I'm not able to enter a validation code, I get an error saying that it’s the wrong code. When I try to register it online, it tells me that it’s not available. I do have an active internet connection. I have tried installing it straight on my laptop and it works fine. I’ve tried installing it on a thumb drive and get the same error. I have included a screen shot. I am using the free download of MoJoPac and if the paid version will make it work, I’ll buy it.
Thanks for any help.

I’ve tried installing it on a thumb drive and get the same error.
Get yourself a copy of TrueCrypt 4.3a (not 5+)
Run it and create a few test "volumes" on your HDD and also on a USB drive so you get confortable and understand how it works. Learn how to backup and restore the header. Learn how to make and use a "traveler".
I work with five different computers and my current traveler is a 2.5" Hitachi ATA-6 160gb NTFS low power HDD mounted inside a Sabrent USB enclosure that never requires a external power supply (see newegg). On that drive there is a 75gb TC NTFS volume installed. TC can be opened from any CPU as the TC.exe and system files are all in the Hitachi root. All my junk and data files are in the unencrypted area. When I mount the 75g TC volume I always put it on W: so I can subst x y and z with no problem. MoJo Deluxe is inside the TC volume along with all my "activated" <sic> software, emails, pictures of my wife, etc, etc. I use Knoppix and the dd command to copy/duplicate the entire drive and/or use Acronis v9 or 9.5 server to backup the entire drive, the encrypted or unencrypted portions.
Your WD HDD should be formatted NTFS.
Make yourself a TC NTFS Volume on your WD HDD.
Install MoJo in your new volume and ensure you can access it from anywhere. You should also be able to copy your new TC volume over to your main HDD, open it and start MoJo - MoJo Freedom should ask to be verified but that goes away with the deluxe :)
Make sure the physical WD USB drive shows up in M$ Computer Managment as a fixed disk formatted as NTFS. Quickbooks and a few of the other Hot Shot software companies say you are a thief and lock you out if you try to install on FAT32 partition, a removable drive, or if you part your hair on the wrong side.
Turn off System Restore, at least for that drive
Google "How to format USB NTFS" and ignore the naysayers. You may have to get yourself a copy of partition magic but instead google for "hiren's boot cd" and use the stuff on there - It's a wow CD!
Never remove an USB NTFS device without first making sure all data has been written to it and it is unlocked (Period!)
You are in the big leagues now so don't expect Bill_Gates to keep track of your external USB drives for ya. Go here and get the tools (and education) necessary to manage your usb devices and then use the tools or lose your data:
http://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbstick_e.html
Also search and use the "unlocker"
FYI: FAT and FAT32 devices don't have the above headaches and the Quickbooks software writers capitalize on that. They don't want you to use MoJo either!
TC only has one serial number that stays with the original volume - Change the volume and then the serial changes and then so does the activation and sh!t happens.
If you own the software then I suggest you go to places like shareme org or puzo org and find an alternative way to activate the product. IMHO the very best ways are .exe and/or .dll "patches" because they eliminate the entire stupid activation scheme.
And, if you have a real strong password on your TC volume (15+ characters, etc, etc) then I don't know how anyone can prove what is inside the volume. For others it is a forensic nightmare that always turns up zero for them. On the other hand, if your PASSWORD is "password" then you probably deserve any problems you get :)
(Example: I paid over $1000 for the Adobe CS3 Master suite and it was the biggest pain in the arse... all the time saying I moved the software to a new computer and then customer service claims I have too many activations? Always down more than up  Installed it in a TC volume with MoJo, got it patched, put the original receipt in a safe place and now I finally have peace and can get back to work - How stupid they are)
Anyway, all that aside you should legaly be able to install and activate the product unless there is something I don't know. If you have specific problems PM me.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Benoone, that’s a lot to take in. I’ll try everything this week and see what I can get going. I have thought about getting a dll/patch to get rid if this problem, but being that I paid for a legit copy, I hate to patch or hack it. So do you use a paid version of MoJoPac with your Adobe CS3 Master suite and should I consider getting the paid version, I couldn’t see many advantages to having the paid version.
I really appreciate you taking the time to explain what I need to do and I will try that this week. Everything that I have read, it seems that the mojotech looks like an auto response and nothing is ever solved from them.
So do you not like the TrueCrypt 5+ or will it not work for what I want.

but being that I paid for a legit copy, I hate to patch or hack it.
Last time I looked no one including Corel, Microsoft or Adobe will reimburse me for my lost wages or income while I screw around contacting their Mothership trying to get their products to do Activation Ad Nauseum.
Good patches and VLK keys make all that Sh!tStuff go away in the darkness of night while using a TrueCrypt AES encrypted volume and a very strong password
You see, the older I get... the more expensive my time becomes.
I have to ask myself "Do I want to be legal and pure as the driven snow or do I want to be happy?"
MoJo and TC allow me to be happy.
I don't have to worry about all those hidden files and registry entries being dumped on my hard drive. Want scary stuff: Do a google on thumbs.db and find out how easy it is for you to go to jail.
Anyway, if you don't agree that's fine but I think at some point you may reconsider, albeit in 20 years?
(1)Do you use a paid version of MoJoPac with your Adobe CS3 Master suite and
(2)should I consider getting the paid version,
(3)I couldn’t see many advantages to having the paid version.
1. Yes - Right now a two pack and thinking about four.
2. Yes - The free MoJo version does not support PDF printers. This is normally a minor thing except Adobe will not finish and will abort the install. I don't know about the standard reader. The Deluxe version does not have this limitation. You also do not need a active internet connection for the Deluxe as you can turn off the update check. I keep forgetting you have a QB problem - I'm not sure Deluxe will fix that but more likely TC will because of the single serial for the HDD but I really don't know for sure - Why not do a search here on MoJo?
3. The major advantage is to ensure these MoJo guys continue to eat, stay in business, improve their product and keep this forum open.
IMHO their software is worth much more than they charge.
I have four PC's at home, two at work plus two Notebooks that I used to lug around. Keeping all these suckers on a network and in sync was a real chore that ate up my time. And, if I had to buy legal copies for all these machines and keep them updated and activated... I would just puke!
I strongly urge you to purchase the Two Pack license - always keep one free so you don't have to panic when things go wrong. i.e., See the posts about the other guys who drop their disk etc.
it seems that the mojotech looks like an auto response and nothing is ever solved from them.
Oh well, IMHO they are wonderful and certainly not autoresponse.
I see them take care of the license problems straight away but the requests for things like 64bit MoJo for Vista get put on the back burner as they should be. Again, IMHO and no disrespect, anyone using Vista has simply not thought through the ROI of that OS or maybe, it's because my time is more valuable than theirs?
If you want poor - have a look at Community.AuctionSentry.com where the SiteAdmins are rude, arrogant, superior and if you have a problem you are really just a dumba$$ and don't deserve to use the software... i.e., the new M!crosoft feel
So do you not like the TrueCrypt 5+ or will it not work for what I want.
I never used v5 but all the gurus here say it's broke so I should argue? I'm happy and have no problems with 4.3a.
Hope this helps, take care

PS
I see Corel changed their EULA. Now you do not have a valid license unless you have a written receipt from either Corel or one of their approved partners. That means even if its brand new and still shrink wrapped, if you buy it from me you are screwed and not in compliance with their EULA.
Have a small or part-time business? Before you download and install Adobe Shockwave or Acrobat Reader be sure to read parargraph 13 of their EULA
Just a few small reasons why I use TC and MoJo...
